Shifting from good intentions to bad results in "Little Green", Joni Mitchell utilizes emotional imagery, sporadic mood, and somber foreshadowing to expose "sometimes there'll be sorrow," but the good outweighs the bad. Joni expresses emotional imagery by describing the life of the child she gave up, from a point of view she'll never see. "There'll be icicles and birthday clothes" describes the climate and temperature it would be if Joni kept her child and they lived together while the child grew up. "There'll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow" suggesting that the child is now older, and not a newborn. That is one device Joni Mitchell utilizes.
   Another device she uses is mood, sporadically. Through out the song, we get the feeling that is given through her words. At times she's happy imagining a life with her child, but then she's sad from the harsh reality that she never gets to experience those dreams. "Like the nights when the Northern Lights perform" gives a happy tone and happy imagery.
   Mitchell expresses a somber foreshadowing to display that even though Little Green is not with her, she'll (little green) have a good life. She also explains her growing up, going to school; and getting older. It also describes how she hopes for a good life for green, the guilt she receives from her viewpoints, and the guilt she couldn't give herself. It also signifies how life won't go smoothly but it will be the best she makes it, which it won't be good all the time. It's a very sad song, but it's meant to be thought well of, and that her choice is for the better.

Sweet Child O' Mine (analysis)

Shifting from point of view of a man to a child, Guns N Roses uses cherishing mood, sporadic flashbacks, and constant imagery to emphasize the comfort of a woman he loves and how certain aspects of her remind him of his young childhood memories. 

  Guns N Roses uses cherishing mood to express how he feels about his significant other. He gives the listener his feelings of what she looks like and compares them to something that is enjoyable. Judging by this song, he feels very strongly of this woman, and has been with her for quite some time for him to be able to know her so well as to feel this comfortable with her. He talks about how her beauty is so captivating, but her beauty is so strong that he would probably cry tears of joy because not only is her appearance beautiful, but herself as a person. People can almost instantaneously figure out the mood right away when the song starts playing.

  Using sporadic flashbacks, he compares her to things that he remembers as a child, and how she either enhances the good, or changes it to better. For instance, her smile reminds him of his childhood memories where everything was as fresh as a bright blue sky; meaning that her smile brightens his day and that memory was a good memory. She has eyes of bluest skies as if they thought of rain, so he's trying to figure out if she's thinking of rain and that's the reason why they are so blue. It also means that her eyes are the color of a clear sunny day, and the color blue of the sky on that day. Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place where as a child I'd hide and pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by; so her hair reminds him of the place he hid as a child from the thunder which scared him, and she makes him feel safe.

  Utilizing constant imagery, Guns N Roses depicts what the woman that he's infatuated with looks like. Describing her smile, and how refreshing it is to him and how it reminds him of a bright blue sky. Her eyes are blue, and they are so deep of blue he wonders if she thinks of rain in order to get them to be that blue. Comparing her warm hair to that of the safe place he often hid a child from the thunder, is described to give the listener an image of what this woman looks like. Judging my this song and the fact her eyes are blue, her hair is probably blonde or black, because it's not too often people with red or brown hair have blue eyes.

  This is a very good representation of freedom and power, the freedom to love and power to stay. This is a very good power jamming song also, one that you can just let loose and be free, so in all honestly, my theme genre is exactly what you do when listening to this song. This was the time when love wasn't determined by anything except a connection between the 2, nothing else. I enjoy this song very much and love how powerful every word is and the instruments along with it, this song is all around amazing. 

Popular music analysis.

So, apparently, the top song as of right now is "One More Night" by Maroon 5, and honestly, I don't really like the song, the beat is weird, and the "instruments" are not my cup of tea at all, so I detest this song currently. The lyrics are as such. In all honesty, I think this says very little, but so much of American culture and what we idolize. Of course it's another break up/relationship song, because we're lacking that in the music department, (end sarcasm). Our modern culture puts priorities on relationships above all else, and basically, if you don't have a significant other, you're a loser, and you aren't getting the most out of life. And of course, the song involves provocative lyrics, because as we all know, sex sells, so if the song has nothing suggestive in it, it's a flunk. Firstly, we are not the greatest consumers of media, unless you mean we worship all things electronic, then yes, we are, but it's mostly saying that our concerns are focused mainly on ourselves and our personal lives.  The gender roles are basically that the guys are oh so sensitive, and they are God's gift to women, while women are just there for enjoyment and company. Success nowadays is strictly measured to money, fame, and power, as it always has been, but the severity is much more higher these generations.

The second top song is varied by website, but I found 2 consistent websites with the consensus that "Gangnam Style" is the second most popular song, I love this song because it's foreign, the beat is catchy, and the dance is stupid, but socially acceptable.  The lyrics (translated) are so. I read the lyrics, and I really like them, they say a lot about who this singer is, and what he represents, and I respect him for it. I think it says that  American culture enjoys the irregular, and not everyday kind of music, and the techno of course, techno is big for some reason. But since the lyrics are not sung in English, I can't speak for what it reflects on our culture, since maybe few have looked up the translation. But, our modern culture enjoys the electronic sounds, and odd frequencies. This song, translated, is saying that you don't need to demean yourself to be loved, but to be a beautiful person on the inside, and that he is the kind of guy that would enjoy having that kind of girl as his companion. The gender roles are that the girl is head honcho, and he respects her, and loves her because of that.
